Happy 1st birthday to our baby. It has been quite a year. It partially feels like it flew by, but it also was filled was a lot of stress. I am a little sad knowing that we are through the infant/newborn phase for good, but also celebrating. Abi, your 1st year was the hardest due to your lack of weight gain. We have been worried that "something bigger" was going on and ran lots of tests, tried many different diets and a few different formulas. In the end, the conclusion is that you have a high metabolism. Many would say - lucky girl - and I hope that's exactly what you are - a lucky girl.
As you are turning one, your personality is starting to bloom. You are LOUD when you want to be and fight to be heard between your siblings. Sometimes you just yell to make noise, sometimes you mimic what your siblings are saying, but most of your time is spent just hanging out and taking things in. At first I would have called you mellow, calm and quiet. That quickly is changing. You like to get into anything you can get your hands on. Your favorite activity is finding piles/buckets/bags and emptying them piece by piece. Even though you haven't mastered crawling, you have gotten really good at scooting on your bottom. It's hilarious to watch. You put one hand on the ground for leverage and scoot from a sitting position. I am writing this on your 14 month birthday - and you were just figuring this out at age 1, but now have it down and are quite efficient at it. You now also have not only mastered army crawling (which was barely a mode of transportation at age one), but you also move your legs to an almost official crawl. When we work with you to walk, you strongly resist. We hold you in the air and when your feet are about to hit the ground, you hold your feet out parallel to the floor - no desire to stand or walk at all. It brings back flashbacks to when Katie was your age. So maybe you'll be walking by age two?!?
Your first words were dada, but you now say mama, baba, ga (dog), wuff wuff wuff, and na na (food). You make kissing noises when daddy says, I love you Abi, and this melts both of our hearts. You like to make all sorts of noises with your mouth - often times in an attempt to get our attention. You love to clap and when you get excited you lie on your back and thump your legs (similar to your brother). You still need/want your binky to go to sleep, but don't have a particular attachment to any animal and will toss a binky out of your seat or floor when you're done. In fact, this is one of your favorite games with binkies, food (which Henry loves), or anything that you have in your hands.
Your laugh is contagious. We like to tickle you just to hear the "guy laugh". You are full of smiles and such a happy, happy baby. You love most all food and like to pick things out by color. We call you Abi Doos, Dooze, Doo Dooze, Abs, Abigail, and Abi. Andy is the one who nick named you dooze, and it has stuck. We love you to pieces and have been referring to the quote, "Although she may be but small, she is fierce." I have a feeling that although you may be small, you are going to make a big mark on the world. We love you baby girl!
