My kids are a little obsessed with their backpacks. They LOVE them. I figured I probably should capture their excitement while it lasts. Katie's almost takes up her whole body and Andy's is a little small, but no complaints from them!

While we were gone...
We wouldn't have been able to get away and enjoy our time away without the help of my parents. The kids LOVED their time with them. In fact, one time when we called, my parents asked Katie if she wanted to talk to us and she profoundly said, "NO." We missed our kids a ton, but loved that they had a blast and were calling us Ka and Bapa instead of Mom and Dad when we got home. Definitely a sign of a good weekend! Thank you mom and dad for loving our kids and for allowing us some time away. My mom successsfully dropped off and picked up the kids at both of their preschools on Friday...which is great training for when baby comes : )
While we were gone, we received the following updates:
Playing at Coop
Whidbey time!
Huntington Beach
Kyle and I won a trip to Huntington Beach at last year's Magnolia Coop Auction. With Baby #3 on the way, and the trip expiring in November, we "had to" book the trip. It was such a fun weekend. It reminded us how much fun we have together : ) When we arrived at our hotel, we looked at each other and both felt a little lost. What do we do without our kids? Where do we go? It was pretty surreal, but such a nice little escape. We spent the weekend lingering over yummy meals, napping by the pool, being spontaneous, going on adventures, taking a cab without having to think about car seats, reminiscing about when we first met, and laughing a lot. We decided that we need to make a point to do this at least once a year.
We were pretty excited to go to the highly recommended Sugar Shack. Right from the airport...and we just sat and ate and people watched. Not rushed at all. Ahhh.
Everyone just walked a slower pace or rode their cruisers around time. It kind of felt like being in Europe compared to the hustle and bustle of Seattle.
We saw the Space Shuttle Endeavor fly it's final route before heading to a museum. It made for some great people watching.
Kyle being a kid : )
Heading out to dinner in town
Post dinner walk on the Pier
Boat ride around Newport Beach/Balboa Island
Tiny 3 car ferry - $2 to cross
Shirley Temple's childhood home
Pirate's Cove (Gilligan's Island, Pirates of the Caribbean and many other movies filmed here)
Balboa Island
Trying to capture the sunset, but our phone camera didn't do it justice.
We were fascinated with the lifeguard shacks.
Last day at our hotel
Surfing and Palm Trees...
Husky Game
As part of my Gamma Phi reunion, we went to the Husky/Portland State game. Luckily, it was a blow-out and we headed home at half time, which was the perfect length with the kids. I love all of the Husky traditions. Even though we were at Century Link instead of Husky Stadium, we still enjoyed the game. We are trying to infuse the Husky spirit in our kids early on - and they love it. Thanks Mom and Dad for the great seats and holding/entertaining our kids on your laps : )
