August Whidbey Weekend - Friday

We just returned from a 10 day stay at Whidbey.  The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed a lot of time outside.  We kicked off our August with a weekend at Whidbey.  Both Mol and Bets invited friends up and we celebrated Callie's and Kyle's birthdays.  This is my favorite time of summer - warm weather and Whidbey!  I have to admit, I am getting excited for fall.  We have some fun stuff planned in September and a little school and schedule for the kids is needed (for my sanity)!

Friday was spent with the Gribbles and Tonkins.  It was a hot day and we took full advantage of all that Whidbey has to offer.  We played hard!

Seafair and Boats

We kicked off August with a visit to the Seattle waterfront.  For Seafair, the Navy ships dock on the Pier and people can take tours.  We just watched the presentation of the boats and planes - favorites of Andy, Katie...and Kyle!

Katie VERY excited to show me the airplane
Big smiles!

Birthday celebrations with Connie

We celebrated Kyle's and Andy's birthdays with Connie early as she is heading out of town for their actual birthdays.  Andy particularly has enjoyed the extended birthday celebration.

July in Pictures

July was a busy month with a lot of time on Whidbey and the Seattle Tennis Club.  The highlights were having the kids move rooms and adding a new play area upstairs.  July had pretty good weather and we were able to take advantage of the sunshine.  The low points were trying to keep the kids occupied on the grey days (low points for this tired, pregnant momma) and our visit to Children's.

Here is an overview of the month of July through my phone.

Playdate with Sophia and Logan at the Everett Children's Museum (such a great spot!)

Cartoons at home

Photos of the Lentz kids at Whidbey, while Mollie and Ryan were out of town.  Letting them know all was okay (Nick's was the best)

Swimming lessons at the STC

Excitement over the first delivery of Callie's Coffee

Cheering on Bets at her half-marathon.  She won her age group and got 4th overall!!
Mile 2 - so serious
Mile 4, all smiles
Mile 11, just passed runner #5

Andy's quiet time included lots of time playing with cars.  Our friends gave us this new car ramp and Andy loved it!  Between the ramp and his ferry boat, he stayed occupied for hours.

Summer finally arrived at Whidbey.  Andy and Kyle walking in the sound.

And more time at Whidbey.  Callie is the BEST "sitter/buddy" for Katie.

Tough Day

We had a tough day in July. On one rainy/stormy Friday, I decided we were going to have a pajama day and just take it easy at home. I was putting away laundry upstairs and when I came downstairs, I found coffee grinds everywhere. I had put an old Starbucks mail sample in the garbage that morning, so I assumed Henry had gotten into the garbage. But I threw it away in my office garbage, which is blocked by a gate. The grinds where everywhere (later that day Andy accidentally fessed up to running around the house emptying the bag).

I went downstairs to find the gate collapsed and two kids with permanent markers drawing all over my computer, desk and carpet. I cleaned as much as I could and then went to vacuum up the coffee. Both kids were with me at that point. 5 minutes of vacuuming, I noticed Katie had been out of my site for a couple of minutes. I found her in our bathroom with pills all over our bathroom floor. She had climbed up on a chair, opened a deep drawer, and opened a child-locked prescription bottle. I asked her if she had eaten any and she said, "Yep." At that point, I still didn't know if she had (hard to trust the answer from a 2 year old), so I called Kyle, he called poison control, while he rushed home.

5 minutes later, Katie could not stand up, her eyes were half mast, and she was slurring her words. It was one of the scariest moments of my life. Luckily Kyle got home quickly, poison control checked us in at Children's and we were able to get to the hospital in record time. Katie drank some charcoal and they monitored her. After 2 hours, she was starting to be back to herself and after 4 hours they checked her urine sample and it came back clear. We were very fortunate and learned a scary and tough lesson. I was grilled by social services and as soon as we got home, we cleared our house of any medicines, cleaning supplies, etc. It was a really hard day as a mom and I am thankful that everything turned out okay.
